The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, recently held a meeting to review the arrangements for Eid ul Azha and Muharram ul Haraam in the province. Attendees included Deputy Commissioners and various officers, as well as representatives of mutton dealers and organizations related to the Shia community.
Discussions centered around ensuring necessary facilities to the public, such as the availability of sacrificial animals at designated locations and the availability of essential goods in the market. The Divisional Commissioner gave directions to officials to constitute market-checking teams to control prices and prevent overcharging by traders. He also instructed for a smooth supply of electricity before and during the festivities at specific locations.
To ensure safety, the Divisional Commissioner ordered for the capturing of stray dogs by SMC across all major shrines and mosques, as well as the deployment of medical teams with ambulances at prominent locations. Sanitary workers were directed for cleanliness and sanitation in and around the periphery of Assar-i-Sharief, Hazratbal, Eid-Gah, Srinagar, and other major locations in districts.
With regard to the observation of Muharram ul Haraam, necessary repairs and development of routes used by mourners were requested. The Divisional Commissioner also instructed for the availability of firewood and a regular supply of electricity and water to Shia dominant areas during the month of Muharram.
Overall, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized the importance of public safety and wellbeing during these celebrations, urging officials to remain vigilant and make necessary arrangements for a smooth and peaceful observance of Eid ul Azha and Muharram ul Haraam.
