Four individuals have been arrested for allegedly killing a retired railway employee over money and burying his body in Thane district, Maharashtra. Gopal Rangayya Naidu, a resident of Kalyan who worked as a ticket checker for the railways, gave Rs 10 lakh to his friend Ramesh More after receiving Rs 26 lakh in his retirement funds. In October 2022, Naidu requested his money back for his son’s college fees but More was hesitant. Naidu then mortgaged his house to pay for his son’s studies. In January 2023, Naidu got into a verbal altercation with More after not receiving his money back. On June 3, Naidu went missing. Ten days later, his family was informed by the police of the discovery of a decomposed body in a field in Shahpur. Four people, including the one in whose field the body was found, have been apprehended. The case has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence). More is still at large.
