A retired bank officer from Bhopal was duped of his two gold rings by a man posing as a police officer in Indore’s Chandan Nagar area on Tuesday. Manohar Kumar had come to the city to meet his younger brother when he was stopped by the accused on the pretext of police checking. The imposter fled with the gold rings, leaving Kumar shocked and in disbelief.

According to Indramani Patel, the in-charge of Chandan Nagar police station, Manohar Kumar filed a complaint stating that he and his brother were passing near Dastoor Garden when a man intercepted them. Claiming to be a policeman, the imposter displayed an identity card and informed Kumar about an ongoing police check in the area. He then asked Kumar to empty his pockets for inspection. Naïvely, Kumar complied and displayed Rs 12,000 in cash along with his two precious gold rings. The imposter skillfully concealed the rings inside a handkerchief and handed it back to Kumar.

Only a few steps away from the encounter, Kumar decided to check the handkerchief and was devastated to find the gold rings missing. He and his brother frantically searched for the imposter, but he had vanished into thin air. Realizing the gravity of the situation, they promptly visited the local police station to register a formal complaint.

The authorities have initiated a search operation to locate the accused and retrieve the stolen rings. The complainant mentioned that an accomplice of the imposter was standing a short distance away, hinting at the possible involvement of a bigger network.

Manohar Kumar, a retired bank officer, spoke with the media, recounting his encounter with the imposter. He expressed his disbelief at being deceived so easily and shared that when he had shown the imposter the cash, the latter had returned it, choosing to take only the two gold rings. Kumar remains hopeful that the police investigation, aided by the CCTV footage from the area, will lead to the identification and arrest of the culprit.

The incident serves as a stark reminder for individuals to be vigilant and cautious, especially when approached by strangers claiming to be law enforcement officers. It highlights the need for stringent background checks and verification protocols to ensure the legitimacy of such encounters.

As the search for the imposter continues, the police urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. In the meantime, it is crucial for the public to remain wary of such fraudulent activities and report any suspicious incidents promptly to the authorities.

Instances of unsuspecting individuals falling victim to scams and deception remind us of the importance of maintaining awareness and skepticism in our daily lives. Let this incident serve as a cautionary tale while we collectively work towards creating a safer and more secure society.
