Restaurant inspections conducted by Richland Public Health in Richland County have revealed several critical violations in various establishments between July 31 and August 3. These violations range from employees not being informed about their responsibility to report their health status to unclean food-contact surfaces and improper protection of food from contamination.

One of the restaurants, Speedway #1099 located at 1321 Park Avenue West in Mansfield, was cited for not adequately informing employees about reporting information regarding their health. Although an employee illness agreement was posted, there were no signatures to verify that employees had been informed. The restaurant also had unclean food contact surfaces on their ice dispensers and lacked allergen declarations on their blueberry muffins. However, these issues were corrected during the inspection.

Marco’s Pizza #1065, located at 888 Ashland Road in Mansfield, was found to have a critical violation due to the presence of live insects. Flies were observed during the inspection, and the restaurant was given until August 23 to rectify the issue.

At O’Charley’s (store #383) on 1335 N. Lexington Springmill Road in Mansfield, TCS (Time/Temperature Control for Safety) foods were not being properly cold held. The inspection revealed cod filets with temperatures between 51-52 degrees in the walk-in cooler, and cole slaw with a temperature of 43 degrees on the prep cooler. The restaurant promptly discarded the affected food items.

500 Park Ave. Café, situated at 500 Park Avenue West in Mansfield, had several critical violations. The person in charge (PIC) was unable to demonstrate knowledge without any critical violations. Some of the violations included food not being properly protected from contamination, unclean equipment food-contact surfaces, and failure to properly date mark refrigerated, ready-to-eat TCS foods. Additionally, the establishment had a repeated issue with the presence of live insects. Richland Public Health set a re-inspection date for August 8 to ensure the facility rectifies the problem.

IHOP, located at 2190 Walker Lake Road in Ontario, had some critical violations that were addressed during the inspection. The person in charge was initially unable to demonstrate knowledge without any critical violations, but this was resolved with education during the inspection. The restaurant also had issues with the proper protection of food from contamination, unclean equipment food-contact surfaces, and failure to maintain the proper temperature for TCS foods. All critical violations were corrected during the inspection.

Bob Evans Restaurants LLC #219 on 30 W. Hanley Road in Mansfield had recurring critical violations, including the presence of live insects. Flying black insects were observed in various areas of the establishment, but despite promises of pest control, no improvements were seen during the re-inspection. The restaurant was required to address the issue by August 8.

Other restaurants such as Kroger Company #N836, Kroger Company #N518, The Golden Burrito Mexican Grill, Wiener King/Sunset Fast Foods Inc., Tamara K. King, Forest Hills Golf Course, and Hidden Hollow Camp were also cited for critical violations such as improper food temperature control, the presence of insects and pests, and lack of running water in certain cases.

These inspections conducted by Richland Public Health aim to ensure that restaurants in Richland County maintain high sanitary standards and provide safe dining experiences for customers. The officials work closely with the establishments to rectify any critical violations promptly. It is crucial for restaurant owners and employees to prioritize food safety and implement proper hygiene practices, from storing and preparing food to maintaining a clean environment.

Consumers are advised to stay informed about restaurant inspection reports to make educated decisions when dining out. Richland Public Health provides a comprehensive list of inspection details on their website, where concerned individuals can find additional information about specific violations.

Maintaining a healthy and clean dining environment is a collective effort between health officials, restaurant owners, and staff to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of all customers.
