Residents of Kudeti Estate in Akora Estate, Lagos State have reached out to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with a distress call, seeking assistance against land grabbers who have been destroying their properties and attempting to claim their homes.
At a press conference held by the residents, they revealed that their ordeal with the land grabbers has been ongoing for several years. According to them, the land grabbers have been using a court judgment from another piece of land to falsely lay claim to their properties. Despite their resistance, the situation has escalated to the point where the residents are now afraid to enter their own homes.
The residents of Kudeti Estate are now pleading with Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene and address the issue. They allege that the land grabbers, with the help of thugs, are forcefully entering people’s lands and damaging their properties.
One resident, Mr. Kunle Lawal, stated that the land grabbers should be considered as bandits because they use weapons to carry out their illegal activities. He urged the governor to take action by investigating the land grabbers and ensuring that they face the appropriate consequences for their actions.
Mr. Lawal shared his personal experience, explaining that he and his wife purchased their property in 1995. However, a couple of years ago, individuals claiming ownership arrived on the scene with a fake court judgment and tried to seize the land. Despite involving the Lagos State Land Grabber Task Force, the harassment has continued. Recently, a group of thugs accompanied by policemen entered the property and destroyed structures, even though a court judgment was pending.
Lawal reported the incident to the police, and two of the thugs were arrested. However, he was shocked to discover that they were released the following day. Additionally, the police informed him that they do not handle land matters.
Another resident expressed concern that if the situation is not resolved promptly, it could escalate and potentially impact the peace and security of Adeniyi Jones, a nearby area close to the Lagos State seat of government.
The residents implored Governor Sanwo-Olu to intervene and prevent any further breach of peace or loss of lives and properties. They have confidence in the governor and believe that he will take appropriate action to resolve the issue and ensure their safety.
The plight of the residents of Kudeti Estate highlights the urgent need for authorities to address the activities of land grabbers and protect the rights and properties of law-abiding citizens. It is hoped that Governor Sanwo-Olu will respond swiftly and effectively to their distress call, bringing the land grabbers to justice and restoring peace and security to the estate.
