Veteran classical singer Prabha Atre passed away at the age of 92 in Pune, Maharashtra. The renowned singer suffered a heart attack and was rushed to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, but unfortunately, she passed away before reaching the hospital. Prabha Atre was scheduled to participate in a program in Mumbai today, but her health had deteriorated prior to her demise.
Born on September 13, 1932, in Pune, Prabha Atre was a celebrated classical music singer who received numerous accolades throughout her career. She was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri in 1990, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2022. Recently, on December 25, she was also presented with the Atal Sanskriti Award by Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis.
Condolences poured in from prominent figures upon hearing the news of Prabha Atre’s passing. Devendra Fadnavis expressed his grief, stating, Her leaving the world is very painful. Indian music will always be indebted to her. I pay my heartfelt tribute to her and may God give strength to her family to bear this loss. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also mourned her demise, describing it as the end of a glorious era of classical music and expressing his condolences.
In honor of Prabha Atre’s contributions to music, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra directed the administration to conduct her last rites with full state honors. Her relatives, who are currently abroad, are expected to return to the country for her final rites, which will be performed in Pune on Tuesday.
Prabha Atre’s timeless voice and immense talent have left an irreplaceable mark on the classical music landscape. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
