Religious Scholars, Tribal Elders Call For Reopening of Schools for Girls

Some religious scholars and tribal elders of the country have urged the Islamic Emirate to immediately reopen schools and universities for girls in Afghanistan. At a gathering in Kabul, over two hundred religious scholars and tribal elders, along with members of the Islamic Emirate’s cabinet, emphasized the importance of women’s education and presence throughout the nation.

The gathering, held at Qasre Sapidar (Sapidar Palace), focused on The role of scholars and tribal elders in strengthening relations between the nation and the system. Representatives from various provinces in Afghanistan expressed their views on the matter, highlighting the need for educational opportunities for girls and women.

The committee’s view regarding education is that the Islamic Emirate has paid attention to the needs of religious and contemporary sciences, but it should open schools and universities to girls and women, stated Mohammad Hashem, representative of the southern zone of Afghanistan.

Mohammad Islam, a representative of the western zone, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the significance of providing women’s rights and education in accordance with Islamic principles and laws.

During the gathering, participants also called on the Islamic Emirate to address legitimate demands in areas like the economy, development, and government employment. Abdul Hadi, a representative from the South East zone, appealed for the construction of water dams across Afghanistan to alleviate the water-related problems faced by the people.

Concerns were also raised regarding balanced representation in government positions. Abdul Ghafor, a representative from the North Zone, highlighted the need to consider regional representation when hiring individuals for various roles within the Islamic Emirate.

In response to these concerns, Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, and other cabinet members assured the attendees that the demands and concerns of the citizens would be addressed. Kabir urged the citizens to support the current system and emphasized the need to safeguard the relations between the nation and the government from those seeking to destroy them.

Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting Minister of Vice and Virtue, stated that the Islamic Emirate would consider the demands as long as they align with its principles. However, he also emphasized the responsibility of supporting and assisting the current system.

The attendees of the gathering emphasized the importance of equitable development across all provinces and requested that the Islamic Emirate prioritize the development sectors accordingly.

This call by religious scholars and tribal elders for the reopening of schools for girls reflects the growing consensus on the need to provide equal access to education for all Afghan citizens, regardless of gender. As the Islamic Emirate moves forward, it faces the challenge of balancing traditional values with the evolving needs of its people.

The demand for educational opportunities for girls and women is a significant step toward ensuring a more inclusive and empowered society in Afghanistan. The willingness of religious scholars and tribal elders to advocate for such changes indicates a positive shift in attitudes and a recognition of the importance of education in the country’s development.

It remains to be seen how the Islamic Emirate will respond to these demands and whether it will take concrete steps to reopen schools and universities for girls. As the nation awaits further action, the focus remains on advancing education and promoting equal opportunities for all Afghan citizens.

In an era of ongoing change and transition, the call from religious scholars and tribal elders serves as a reminder that progress can be achieved through open dialogue, collaboration, and a commitment to the principles of inclusivity and equality.
