The power regulator in Delhi has granted permission to distribution companies to raise power tariffs in the city following their petitions seeking a hike in power rates. BSES Yamuna Power Limited has been allowed to charge 9.42%, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited 6.39%, and New Delhi Municipal Council 2% more on top of current rates. Delhi’s administration revealed the surge would not impact consumers. Prices are subject to change depending on the prices of inputs like coal and gas. Delhi Power Minister Atishi said those who get free electricity up to 200 units will not be affected, but other customers will need to pay approximately an 8% surcharge. She also criticised the Centre for increasing coal prices, which are crucial to power production.
