Registration is now open for the 14th annual Kaua’i Marathon and Half Marathon, taking place on September 3rd. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the aloha spirit while enjoying a three-day adventure on the beautiful island of Kaua’i. The event promises to be a world-class affair, featuring various cultural experiences and entertainment along the course.

The marathon kicks off with the Wilcox Health Sports and Fitness Expo at the Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa in Po’ipu, where participants can collect their race packets. The expo, which includes a sponsor reception, will be held on Friday and Saturday, ahead of the Sunday morning race.

The main races begin at 6 a.m. on Sunday, starting from the front of Po’ipu Shopping Village. To ensure a smooth experience for participants, the Kaua’i Marathon website provides detailed traffic advisories and information on road closures.

This year’s event boasts some distinguished participants, including Michael Wardian, a previous marathon champion and renowned ultra runner from Delaware. Wardian will be taking on the full marathon. Tyler McCandless, another accomplished runner and spokesperson for the Kaua’i Marathon Youth Running Program, will be participating in the half marathon.

As COVID-19 conditions improve, the marathon will also welcome two runners from Japan. Shinya Ohashi, the male winner of the 2018 Kaua’i Marathon, will be returning to compete. He will be joined by Mirai Honma, the female winner of the Iwaki Sunshine Marathon.

Since its inception, the Kaua’i Marathon and Half Marathon has attracted over 10,000 participants from the mainland, as well as international and local runners. The event has had a significant economic impact on the island, generating nearly $40 million in direct revenue over the past 14 years. Additionally, the marathon has donated over $160,000 to local charities and nonprofit organizations.

The Kaua’i Marathon is supported by various sponsors, including the Grand Hyatt Kaua’i Resort & Spa, Wilcox Health, and the Kaua’i Visitors Bureau. Other sponsors include Kaua’i Coffee, Koloa Landing Resort, and Holo Holo Boat Charters.

Participants and spectators alike can look forward to an unforgettable experience at the 14th Kaua’i Marathon and Half Marathon. With its breathtaking scenery and the warm hospitality of Kaua’i, this destination race is a must for all running enthusiasts.
