Xiaomi has released its latest entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 12C, in the Indian market. The smartphone is priced at Rs 8,999 and is available in four colours: Mint Green, Lavender Purple, Matte Black, and Royal Blue. It competes with other entry-level smartphones from brands such as Realme, Motorola, and Vivo.
In terms of design, the Redmi 12C features a striped back design with a square camera module with a glossy background. The phone is made of polycarbonate material and has flat sides. On the right, there are volume rockers and a power button, while the left side features a SIM card tray that also has a dedicated slot for a microSD card. The top of the phone has a slot for a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the bottom features a loudspeaker, USB Type-B micro charging port, and a microphone slot. Unfortunately, there are no earphones included in the box.
The fingerprint scanner is located inside the camera module, which gives it a less-than-ideal appearance and may not be the most comfortable position for users. The sensor, however, is highly responsive.
The Redmi 12C has a 6.71-inch HD+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate. The screen features an oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprint smudges. Even in direct sunlight, the screen’s brightness is adequate enough to use the phone. The speakers are also satisfactory, making it a decent device for binge-watching content.
The Redmi 12C is ideal for those seeking a reasonably-priced smartphone with good performance metrics such as display and speaker quality. The phone has a 6GB/128GB variant that is worth considering for those looking for an entry-level smartphone that offers value for money.
