Red Light Holland Corp., an Ontario-based company specializing in the production and sale of functional mushrooms and psilocybin truffles, has fired Mia Khalifa, also known as Sarah Joe O’brien, due to controversial tweets she made celebrating violence by Hamas terrorists in Israel. Khalifa had signed a consulting deal with Red Light Holland on April 21st, 2023.

In a statement released by CEO Todd Shapiro, he expressed the company’s condolences to the victims and their families in Israel, highlighting the need for caution in the face of the hate directed towards Jewish people. Shapiro emphasized that Khalifa’s tweets, which endorsed rape, kidnapping, abuse, and murder, were disgusting and did not represent the views of the company.

When Khalifa was first hired, Red Light Holland was excited to work with her and respected her choice to engage in adult work in the past. The company believed she could help spread awareness about psychedelics and mushrooms to her large social media following.

However, Khalifa’s recent tweets promoting violence and hatred went against the company’s values of unity and love. Red Light Holland firmly believes that psychedelics can contribute to peace-building and breaking down barriers between different cultures.

Shapiro pointed out a research study by Leor Roseman that highlights the ability of psychedelics to create a feeling of unity, connect to other cultures through music, and heal from traumatic elements related to conflicts like the one between Israelis and Palestinians.

In light of Khalifa’s actions, Red Light Holland made the decision to terminate her employment immediately. As she was fired before the six-month mark, she will not be entitled to any options from the company.

Red Light Holland remains committed to its vision of uniting people and breaking down divisions. The company believes in the responsible and educational use of psychedelics to foster love and understanding among all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or sex.
