Record High Revenue for Wafer Fab Equipment Expected to Dip in 2021: Counterpoint

The wafer fab equipment (WFE) industry has recorded a 9% year-over-year growth in revenue, reaching a record $120 billion in 2022, despite facing macroeconomic slowdowns, component shortages, and logistics disruptions. Counterpoint Research revealed that the revenue was boosted by investments made by customers of WFE manufacturers across sectors, including IoT, AI, HPC, automotive, and 5G. The top five WFE suppliers — ASML, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, Lam Research, and KLA — saw their systems and service revenue increase to $95 billion in 2022. The research firm suggested that WFE revenue is predicted to drop this year, contrary to last year’s growth spurt.
