Reckitt Launches First Dettol Climate Resilient School in Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand for World Environment Day 2023.

Consumer health and hygiene company, Reckitt, has launched its first Dettol Climate Resilient School in Uttarkashi, a district in Uttarakhand, under its Dettol Banega Swasth India campaign in partnership with PLAN India.The initiative seeks to create a sustainable school environment across the state and encourage awareness and education around climate change among students, teachers, and communities. These schools will empower children and recognise them as climate champions to help build sustainable and resilient futures. The project operates via three key principles; campus, collaboration, and curriculum, which are aligned with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).On World Environment Day, the Government Higher Secondary School in Athali, Uttarkashi was inaugurated as the first of four schools in Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Uttarakhand is regarded as particularly vulnerable to climate change, and the state has faced geographical consequences, such as melting glaciers and seismic activities. Reckitt’s Climate Resilient School project aims to help alleviate such issues.The LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) movement, launched by the Indian government, also inspires the project, helping communities transition towards mindful resource usage to reduce their carbon footprint.According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021, India is the seventh most vulnerable country to climate change impacts. During the Glasgow summit in 2021, India introduced the LiFE movement, another step towards the nation’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Reckitt aims to create climate champions at schools in Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand to help prepare for the consequences of climate change.
