Toy Recall: Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kit Poses Choking Hazard
A popular child’s toy, the Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kit, is being recalled due to serious ingestion, choking, and obstruction hazards. The toy, made by Buffalo Games and sold exclusively at Target, has been linked to one infant death and another child requiring surgery. As a result, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Buffalo Games have announced the recall of approximately 52,000 of these kits.
The specific hazard associated with the Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kit is the potential expansion of these water beads if ingested. Once inside a child’s body, the beads can cause choking and obstruction, leading to severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and even death. Tragically, a 10-month-old in Wisconsin lost their life in July after swallowing these beads, while a 9-month-old in Maine suffered a serious intestinal obstruction, requiring surgical intervention.
To ensure the safety of children, the CPSC is urging immediate action. Parents and caregivers are advised to discontinue using the recalled water bead kits and to remove them from children’s reach. Buffalo Games is offering a full refund and providing instructions on how to return the product in a prepaid mailing package. Alternatively, consumers may return the product to any Target store.
The Chuckle & Roar Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kit was sold exclusively at Target from March 2022 through November 2022 for approximately $15. The kits were manufactured in China and include 2 ounces of jumbo water beads and 6 ounces of regular water beads. The kit also contains a clear container and lid, five small toy fish, a scissor scoop, tweezers, a scoop with a handle, 10 activity cards, and instructions. Consumers can identify the product by the label on the front of the purple container, which reads Ultimate Water Beads Activity Kit, and the UPC Number 079346627035 on the back.
