Members of the Ramnami community in Chhattisgarh, India, participated in the three-day Ramayan Mahotsav in Raigarh district and captured the attention of attendees, including artists from overseas who were awestruck by the tattooed faces and bodies of the Ramnamis. Ramnamis are a community in Chhattisgarh who are dedicated to the worship of Lord Ram, with their bodies and faces tattooed in his name. They consider their bodies to be a temple. Ramnamis spread the message of giving up addictions, greed, embracing a vegetarian diet, and speaking the truth. Devotion to Lord Ram is the sole purpose of their lives, and the community has been carrying forward this tradition for 150-200 years. Everyone, irrespective of their religion, chants Lord Ram’s name after seeing them.
