Residents of Rajaula village, located in the Lalitpur district of Madhya Pradesh, can finally enjoy a reliable source of drinking water thanks to the Jal Jeevan Mission. This change has been much needed, as villagers had to rely on wells and ponds to quench their thirst and women had to walk several kilometers to gather water. However, the situation has drastically changed, as every household in the village is receiving water supply through pipelines.
The villagers celebrated this occasion, as it has eased their daily struggles and is now changing their lifestyle for the better. The raw water is supplied from Rohini dam and is treated in an intake well at Mandawara. From there, the water is supplied to an overhead tank in Rajaula village. This water supply has also benefited the nearby villages of Gayrakalan and Sorayee. In total, nearly 7,000 people living in ten different villages of the area are now receiving water.
The Jal Jeevan Mission is transforming many municipalities by providing a consistent water supply. This has been especially important in the drought-ridden region of Bundelkhand, where the mission has had a significant impact on the lifestyle of people living there. Swatantra Dev Singh, the Jal Shakti Minister of Uttar Pradesh, lauds the efforts of the mission and the transformation it’s bringing to many rural areas of India.
