The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has announced its plans to conduct the Rajasthan Premier League (RPL) in August. This decision was made in a recent executive committee meeting chaired by RCA president Vaibhav Gehlot. The treasurer of RCA, Rampal Sharma, has been appointed as the chairman of RPL, and an organizing committee will be established soon to ensure the smooth running of the event.
The inaugural edition of RPL will feature six teams, and it will be held in August, taking advantage of the window provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to conduct premier leagues before September 10. RCA plans to make the event a grand spectacle and will soon release an advertisement to finalize the best event management company to handle the tournament.
The RPL will only include players from Rajasthan, giving homegrown talent a platform to showcase their skills. Notably, Indian cricketer Deepak Hooda, who represented Rajasthan last year, is expected to participate in the league as well. The tournament will be modeled after the immensely popular Indian Premier League (IPL), with six franchise teams competing against each other under floodlights. Matches are likely to be held in Jaipur and Jodhpur.
Several promising young cricketers are set to lead the franchise teams, including Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Mahipal Lomror, Manav Suthar, and Aniket Choudhary. The RPL is scheduled to take place from August 12 to September 3. To give further exposure to the players, matches will be telecast live on leading TV sports channels, providing them with opportunities to impress selectors for the Rajasthan Ranji team and even the IPL.
The RCA is currently working on finalizing the dates, venues, and other necessary formalities for the RPL and will hold a series of meetings this week to ensure everything is in order. The league aims to create a quality cricketing experience for fans while nurturing local talent from the state of Rajasthan.
