Jaipur: Deputy chief minister Diya Kumari said on Monday that the state government would take concrete steps soon to improve road network in Rajasthan and make it at par with states such as Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
We will have to work beyond the traditional thinking methods. Only then we will be able to strengthen the road network of Rajasthan and make it at par with, or stronger than, states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat, said Kumari in her address at a workshop jointly organised by Indian Infrastructure Financial Company Limited (IIFCL) Projects and Rajasthan State Highway Authority (RSHA) under the state public works department (PWD).
Kumari, who holds the finance, PWD and tourism portfolios, said now that a double engine government is in Rajasthan, the state government will work with IIFCL Projects for rapid development of good quality roads in the state at the same pace as of the central government in the development of the country.
Roads are the first indicator of development in any state. Good roads are the primary requirement for economic, social and industrial growth in a state. There is a lot of potential in Rajasthan for economic, industrial and tourism development, for which good roads are most important, she added.
Kumari announced that the state government looks forward to developing Rajasthan State Highway Authority (RSHA). Both RSHA and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will work closely with IIFCL Projects to help fulfil its mandate, she added.
The workshop was also addressed by additional chief secretary of PWD Sandeep Verma, IIFCL Projects’s MD and chairman PR Jaishankar, and senior officials of PWD, RSRDC, RSHA and IIFCL Projects.
