Indian Railway Noney Bridge Nearing Completion, Boosting Connectivity in North-East Region
Guwahati (Assam) [India], November 22 – The Jiribam – Imphal new line railway project, a vital connectivity initiative in the North-eastern region, is nearing completion and will play a crucial role in transforming the area. The Indian Railways has been actively involved in executing various railway line projects in the North-eastern states, with the Jiribam – Imphal connectivity project being a significant component.
The Noney Bridge, considered an engineering marvel, is an integral part of the 111 km long Jiribam – Imphal Railway line project. It stands as the world’s tallest Railway pier bridge at 141m. The latest progress card shows that the bridge is 80% complete, and once finished, it will serve as a testament to human ingenuity and engineering prowess. The Noney Bridge will facilitate seamless rail connectivity and overcome geographical challenges.
Sabyasachi De, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, expressed the potential impact of the project on both connectivity and economic development. He stated, Not only will the completion of the Noney Bridge and the Jiribam – Imphal Railway line project enhance connectivity, but it will also spur economic growth in Manipur and the surrounding regions. This efficient rail transportation will lower costs, boost trade, attract investments, and create new employment opportunities, contributing to the overall prosperity of the region.
The Jiribam – Imphal Railway project involves the construction of multiple tunnels, totaling 61.32 km in length, along with 11 major bridges and 137 minor bridges. The development is a crucial step in integrating the North-eastern states with the rest of the country, improving trade, tourism, and people-to-people interactions.
