On June 3rd, a tragic train derailment occurred in Balasore district of Odisha, claiming the lives of 233 people and leaving over 900 others injured. In response, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the site of the accident and focused on rescuing survivors and providing proper medical treatment to the injured individuals. He also ensured that all necessary machinery for restoration work had been prepared, and a high-level inquiry would be conducted to investigate the cause of the accident. Similarly, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, also arrived at the site to oversee the rescue operation and declared a one-day state mourning in honor of the victims.
Currently, the rescue operation is ongoing, with efforts focused on removing the 17 overturned coaches of the Coromandel Express and SMVT-Howrah Super Fast Express to ensure no individuals are still trapped beneath the wreckage. Despite the tragedy, officials remain committed to providing assistance to survivors and conducting a full investigation to prevent future accidents.
