Tyler Buchner has been named the starting quarterback for No. 10 Alabama in their upcoming game against South Florida. The decision comes after Jalen Milroe started the first two games for the Crimson Tide but struggled in their recent loss to Texas. Buchner, a transfer from Notre Dame, has been taking most of the first-team snaps this week in practice and will now have the opportunity to lead the offense.
Milroe completed 14 of 27 passes for 255 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss to Texas. Alabama coach Nick Saban had considered playing another quarterback after the defeat. Buchner, who played as a reserve in the season opener, completed 3 of 5 passes for 27 yards and rushed for a touchdown.
Buchner spent the past two seasons at Notre Dame, appearing in 10 games as a freshman and making three starts as a sophomore before a shoulder injury ended his season. He passed for 949 yards, six touchdowns, and eight interceptions with the Fighting Irish. Buchner also showcased his running ability, rushing for 459 yards and seven touchdowns.
Milroe, a redshirt sophomore, started one game last season and has completed 27 of 45 passes for 449 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
Alabama is looking to bounce back from their loss to Texas and regain momentum with Buchner under center. The coaching staff will continue to evaluate the quarterback position and provided an opportunity for players to secure their starting roles by performing well.
With Buchner as the new starter, Alabama hopes to find success against South Florida and get back on track in their pursuit of a successful season. This change at quarterback brings excitement and uncertainty as fans eagerly anticipate how Buchner will perform in his first start for the Crimson Tide.
