Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) recently organized a thought-provoking lecture titled Threats to the marine environment and the role of youth in protecting it as part of their ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the marine environment.
The lecture, held in collaboration with Qatari Youth Hostels and conducted by Jassim Lari, Head of the Marine Wildlife Department, aimed to educate the young participants about various environmental concepts, including marine natural habitats, ecosystems, and biodiversity. Lari highlighted the most significant risks facing the marine environment, which encompass pollution, overexploitation of resources, habitat loss, the threat of invasive species, and the impact of climate change on marine biodiversity.
Emphasizing the crucial role that young people play in safeguarding Qatar’s environment, Lari stressed the importance of preserving and enriching biodiversity in the country’s territorial waters and beaches. He encouraged the attendees to share the knowledge they gained with others, be it their families, friends, or colleagues. The ultimate goal of the MoECC is to foster a generation that actively cares for the local environment.
The lecture also shed light on sustainable practices and the positive impact of scientific research and innovation in biodiversity preservation in Qatar. By highlighting these crucial topics, the Ministry aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and collective awareness within Qatari society.
As the lecture wrapped up, the participants left with a better understanding of the threats facing the marine environment and a renewed commitment to take action. By empowering the younger generation, the Ministry’s efforts ensure a sustainable future for Qatar’s marine ecosystem.
The event received great feedback from the attendees, who expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn and contribute to preserving their local marine environment. Such initiatives play a vital role in shaping a society that values and protects its natural resources.
The MoECC’s lecture serves as a reminder that environmental preservation requires collective effort and continual education. By engaging the youth, who will be the future custodians of our planet, Qatar takes proactive steps toward ensuring a sustainable and thriving marine ecosystem for generations to come.
