Puri police in India has been praised for helping elderly and disabled devotees to get a glimpse of deities Lord Jagannath, Lord Balbhadra and Lady Subhadra. The initiative was launched following regular interactions with the public, during which it became clear that many elderly and ill devotees were unable to visit Sri Mandir or Gundicha Temple. To date, volunteers have helped at least 300 people aged between 70 and 100 years. Local Yuva Shakti were trained and sensitised by police to aid devotees, with the police officers posted to Gundicha Temple also helping to ensure smooth viewing. Disabled rights activist Jitendra Biswal praised the initiative.
