Last week’s Purdue football scrimmage shed light on some unresolved debates surrounding the team’s lineup for the upcoming season. While the official depth chart remains undisclosed until September 2nd, when Fresno State visits Ross-Ade Stadium, we can speculate on what Purdue’s depth chart might look like based on the scrimmage performance.

Quarterbacks: Graham Harrell, the new offensive coordinator, secured the best quarterback from the transfer portal, Hudson Card. Freshman Ryan Browne has shown promise, but redshirting him seems logical. Logan Meredith, a transfer from Arizona State, is the probable backup, with Spencer Adams as a reliable option if needed.

Offensive Line: Cam Craig is expected to step up as the starting left tackle after Greg Long’s graduation. DJ Johnson, who joined Purdue after three seasons at Kent State, is likely to feature on the line. Luke Farrell, a standout lineman at Indiana Wesleyan, has transferred to Purdue and will provide valuable depth.

Defensive Line: Redshirt freshman Gus Hartwig is anticipated to take over the center position, provided he is fully recovered from his knee injury. Eric Kaltenberger is the next in line if Hartwig isn’t fit to play, with Preston Preciado as another potential option.

Running Backs: Gus Mockobee, previously a walk-on, is likely to secure the starting running back position with Zander Horvath moving on. King Doerue, who has shifted from receiver to back, is another dynamic option, and Aiden Downing adds power to the backfield.

Wide Receivers: TJ Sheffield, Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen, Deion Burks, and Mershawn Rice are projected as the starters for Purdue. Elijah Canion, Zion Steptoe, Jayden Dixon-Veal, and Jaron Tibbs provide depth to the receiving corps.

Tight Ends: Payne Durham’s return and the addition of Kyle Miller bring experience to the tight end position. Garrett Miller has made a full recovery from injury and is ready to contribute. The Air Raid offense is expected to utilize the tight ends effectively.

Linebackers: Demarcus Mitchell, Jaylan Alexander, and Ethan Karlaftis bring stability and experience to this position.

Cornerbacks: Da’Veon Turner-Muhammad and Joseph Wilson, transfers from Stanford and Penn State respectively, have the opportunity to make an impact and offer a fresh perspective to Purdue’s revamped cornerback room.

Safeties: Cory Trice and Marvin Grant bring a wealth of experience to the safety position. Josh Allen and Jake Thieneman will provide additional support.

Special Teams: Tyler Freehill takes over the kicking duties after Mitchell Fineran’s graduation. Zac Collins returns as the punter.

While this projected depth chart is based on the recent scrimmage, the actual lineup may vary as the coaching staff makes final decisions. Purdue football fans eagerly await the September 2nd showdown against Fresno State to witness how the team’s depth chart truly unfolds.
