Punjab has taken an important step in combatting human trafficking by setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT). This was announced by Member of Parliament Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Saturday. The SIT works under Mission Hope, a recently launched initiative to rescue women in despair from Oman. Inspector General (Ludhiana) Kaustubh Sharma has taken on the role of Nodal Officer for registering First Information Reports (FIRs).
Sahney has also established four helplines in Abu Dhabi, Oman and India, in an effort to make FIRs and rescue operations easier and more accessible. He has asked all women who have returned from abroad, as well as family members of those still stranded in Middle East countries, to register with the relevant police stations to ensure justice is served.
The initiative by Punjab’s government is the first of its kind, and its efforts should be applauded. The state has a responsibility to protect its citizens, and the SIT will help ensure that those who have gone through travesties will get the justice they deserve. The Government of Punjab is setting an example to other states by demonstrating that its citizens will not stand to be exploited any longer.
Vikramjit Singh Sahney is an International President of World Punjabi Organisation. He is assisting all sufferers in order to register FIRs and initiate the process of rescuing women from Middle East countries. He has received much appreciation from the public for his actions. Sahney is making sure that legal action is taken to ensure those who have committed such crimes are brought to justice.
The Government of Punjab deserves tremendous credit for taking this historic step to curb human trafficking in the state. The SIT is sure to help countless victims of this despicable practice and provide them with justice. The Government’s commitment to protecting its citizens is truly commendable.
