Pune-based Dada Laser Eye Institute launches campaign against cataract blindness

The Dada Laser Eye Institute (DLEI) in Pune, India, has launched a campaign to raise awareness and prevent cataract blindness, with June declared as Cataract Awareness Month. Cataracts are responsible for over 80% of blindness cases in India, with an estimated 3.8 million people projected to become blind due to the condition in the country every year; resulting in a staggering 12 million people who are blind in India. Dr Jeevan Ladi, Director of DLEI, will lead the initiative of providing free cataract testing for 10,000 citizens, valued at Rs. 1,000/- per test as a contribution of 1 crore rupees towards the cause. The DLEI will also organise the CATARACT-FREE PUNE Walkathon on Sunday, June 4, 2023, to raise awareness and encourage participation. The event is open for registering for a free cataract eye checkup, early registration can avail of a 20% concession, and individuals who register after July 1st, 2023, can benefit from a 10% concession.
