National Hip-Hop Celebration in D.C. to Feature Public Enemy and Ice-T
Hip-hop, the most popular genre in America, reached its 50th anniversary in August. To mark this momentous milestone, a National Celebration of Hip-Hop will take place in Washington D.C. on October 6 and 7, featuring legendary artists Public Enemy and Ice-T as headliners.
The free concerts will be held at West Potomac Park on the iconic National Mall. Hip-hop, born in the Bronx and now spread worldwide, has had a profound influence on art, fashion, politics, and various aspects of popular culture for the past half-century. The aim of this celebration is to bring together all these facets in one place for the people, by the people, according to Chuck D of Public Enemy.
Joining Public Enemy and Ice-T on stage will be an impressive lineup of hip-hop pioneers including Kurtis Blow, Kid ‘n Play, Soulsonic Force, Roxanne Shante, CL Smooth, Melle Mel and Scorpio, The Sugarhill Gang, Peter Gunz, DJ Kevie Kev Rockwell, Mad Skillz, MC Sha-Rock, Busy Bee, Joe Ski Love, Positive K, Boogie Black, and Mick Benzo. More acts are expected to be announced soon.
