Massive Protests Erupt Over New Hit-And-Run Law Across Rajasthan

Jaipur: Protests have erupted across the state of Rajasthan as citizens express their opposition to the newly implemented hit-and-run law. The demonstrations turned violent and destructive in the Bhinay block of Ajmer, where protesters set a government vehicle ablaze. As a result, trucks and transport vehicles ceased operations, leading to shortages of essential supplies such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and petrol in major cities including Jaipur.

The strike has garnered support from various sectors, including the Truck and Trailer Association, private bus operators, and taxi drivers, resulting in the suspension of city bus services in Jaipur. Moreover, the disruption in the supply of petrol and diesel from tankers has caused petrol pumps to gradually run dry, compounding the shortage crisis.

Ajmer witnessed a particularly intense public backlash, as drivers blocked the National Highway in the Bhinay block late at night to demand the withdrawal of the controversial law. The demonstration escalated into a clash with the police, with an uncontrollable mob pelting stones and setting a police vehicle on fire.

The impact of the strike has reverberated throughout the state, affecting the transport and delivery of produce from places like Punjab, Maharashtra, and Delhi. Consequently, business came to a standstill in Jaipur’s Muhana Mandi, the principal market for vegetables and fruits. Traders reported that the market had been severely impacted due to the inability of produce from various states to reach their intended destinations.

The strike has also caused significant disruptions for trucks and loading vehicles traveling out of Jaipur, with many stranded along their routes. In a show of solidarity, the Jaipur City Mini Bus Union, private bus operators, and taxi drivers have extended their support to the ongoing strike.

The ramifications of this widespread protest are being acutely felt by the public, resulting in shortages and impeded transportation throughout Rajasthan. As the strike persists, it is uncertain when normalcy will be restored and whether the authorities will be able to address the concerns of those protesting the hit-and-run law.
