Chandigarh (India), February 22 (ANI): Protesting farmers, led by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), are set to observe a ‘Black Friday’ tomorrow in honor of a farmer who tragically lost his life at the Khanauri Border crossing in Sangrur district, Punjab. The announcement was made by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, who also revealed plans for a tractor march on February 26 towards the national capital.

We will observe a ‘Black Friday’ tomorrow condoling the death of a farmer at the Khanauri Border crossing in Punjab. We held a tractor march yesterday as well, Tikait shared in an exclusive interview with ANI.

Moreover, the farmers will organize a tractor march on February 26, where they will take tractors to the highway leading towards Delhi. This one-day program will be followed by nationwide meetings. On March 14, a program is scheduled at Ram Leela Ground in Delhi, where people will participate without tractors to make their voices heard.

The ongoing protests, led by Tikait, successfully prompted the central government to repeal the contentious farm laws last year. While the farmers have temporarily halted their ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest march at the Shambhu border in Haryana, discussions are ongoing to determine the next course of action.

The situation remains tense as clashes between farmers and paramilitary forces have resulted in injuries on both sides. Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda emphasized the need for further efforts to reach a consensus, assuring that the government is committed to addressing the farmers’ concerns.

Since February 13, farmers have been camping at the Shambhu border near Ambala, with confrontations leading to injuries among protestors and police personnel. Despite the challenges, both farmers and the government are working towards finding common ground to resolve the ongoing deadlock.
