Prosecutors Granted Request for Two-Week Adjournment in $1M and 300,000 Euro Theft Case

Prosecutors have been granted a two-week adjournment in the case involving the alleged theft of $1 million and 300,000 euros from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah. The request made by state prosecutors to enable investigators to conclude their investigations was approved by the court.

Seven individuals have been accused in connection with the theft, including Patience Botwe, Sarah Agyei, Benjamin Sowah, Malik Dauda, Christiana Achab, Job Pomary, and Yahaya Sumaila. They face a total of 14 counts, but their pleas have not yet been taken due to ongoing investigations.

During the court session on August 22, Assistant State Attorney Akosua Agyepomaa Agyemang and ASP Emmanuel Nyamekye requested a two-week adjournment to allow investigators to wrap up their work. The defense lawyers did not contest the request.

One of the accused, Job Pomary, who is facing a provisional charge of dishonestly receiving GHc300,000, applied for bail through his lawyer Abdul Basit. The prosecution did not oppose the bail application as investigations into Pomary’s case had already been concluded. Pomary was granted bail in the amount of GHc300,000, with two sureties required to justify the bail. He must also surrender his passport to the court registry and report to the police every two weeks until further notice.

Although some of the defense lawyers attempted to make oral bail applications, the presiding judge directed them to submit formal applications. The case has been adjourned until September 5.

In related news, two of the accused, Sarah Agyei and Christiana Achab, who are lactating mothers, have not been able to meet their bail conditions. They were granted bail of one million cedis each, to be justified by three sureties, on August 8, 2023. The sureties were also required to deposit their Ghana Cards with the court registrar and not leave the jurisdiction. As of now, the two mothers remain in custody as they have not yet met the bail conditions.

This case continues to generate attention as the investigations unfold and the court proceedings progress. We will provide updates as new information becomes available.
