Producer Claims Roman Polanski’s Ongoing Legal Troubles Due to Today’s Political Correctness and ’70s Morals: Exclusive Interview

In an exclusive interview at the Venice Film Festival, producer and actor Luca Barbareschi defended controversial director Roman Polanski against the ongoing legal troubles surrounding his past. Barbareschi, a close friend of Polanski’s for five decades, firmly believes in his friend’s innocence and attributes the accusations to Polanski’s alleged sex appeal.

Barbareschi argued that the current political correctness and cultural standards have contributed to Polanski’s legal battles. He stated, I cannot speak for Roman, but the ’70s were not today. It was free sex for all. I could have a jail sentence for what I did in New York between 1974 and 1980 with the logic of today’s political correctness.

Addressing the allegations that Polanski drugged his victim, Barbareschi seemed to imply that the young girl willingly took drugs with full consent. He insisted that Polanski never provided drugs to anyone, emphasizing that drug usage was prevalent during that era.

The charges against Polanski date back to 1977 when he was accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. The incident allegedly took place during a photo shoot at Jack Nicholson’s home, where the director provided the victim with a sedative and champagne before committing the crime. Polanski was indicted on multiple felony counts, but he fled the United States the following year.

Since then, Polanski has faced extradition attempts from various countries, including the United States. France, Switzerland, and Poland have refused to extradite him at different points. In 2017, the victim asked for the case to be dropped, but her request was rejected.

One of the repercussions of Polanski’s controversial past is the limited distribution of his latest film, The Palace. Barbareschi expressed disappointment that the movie won’t be released in the United States, the UK, Australia, or New Zealand. He described this as embarrassing for these countries.

The Venice Film Festival’s inclusion of Polanski’s film has sparked controversy, similar to Woody Allen’s film Coup de Chance. Despite longstanding allegations of sexual abuse by his daughter Dylan Farrow, Allen’s movie was also allowed to be shown at the festival.

In conclusion, Luca Barbareschi’s exclusive interview sheds light on the ongoing legal troubles of director Roman Polanski. While he staunchly defends Polanski’s innocence, critics argue that his alleged actions should not be overlooked due to changing cultural and moral standards. The controversy surrounding both Polanski and Woody Allen’s films highlights the ongoing debates surrounding art, personal conduct, and the film industry.
