Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has spoken out against the demolition of Dalit homes in Madhya Pradesh, claiming that atrocities against the community have reached their peak. Gandhi took to Twitter to express her outrage, stating that the people of Madhya Pradesh would teach a lesson to the BJP government that perpetrated such atrocities on Dalits, tribals, and the poor. She was referring to the demolition of homes in Sagar district, where ten homes were demolished, of which seven were built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. The MP government claimed that these homes had been built on forest land.

Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh also protested against the government’s action, asking under which law were the houses built under the PMAY scheme demolished. The BSP Supremo, Mayawati, also condemned the action against Dalits, stating that the destruction of the houses built under the PMAY scheme by seven Dalit families in Sagar district was shameful.

The Madhya Pradesh administration has been accused of engaging in bulldozer politics that targets not only homes but also schools. The demolition of the houses built under the PMAY scheme, which provides affordable housing to the poor, is highly condemnable, according to Mayawati.

Such actions have raised questions about the state’s commitment to helping the poor, given that the PMAY scheme is the government’s flagship program aimed at providing affordable housing to the poor. The state’s actions have sparked outrage, with many people questioning the government’s principles and ethics with regard to human rights and the treatment of the marginalised communities.

It is essential to understand the implications of the state’s actions. The onus is on the government to ensure that people’s human rights are protected, and their needs are addressed, especially in the midst of the pandemic when many people are struggling to make ends meet. There is a need for greater accountability and transparency with regard to the state’s actions, and people need to demand answers from their elected representatives.

The demolition of homes built under the PMAY scheme is an act of gross injustice, as it leaves several families homeless and vulnerable. The government must look into this matter and take immediate steps to ensure that such demolitions do not occur in the future. It is the state’s responsibility to uphold the human rights of its citizens and protect the most vulnerable communities in the country.
