Prince William’s Surprise Morning Run in Central Park Delights New Yorkers
Prince William surprised New Yorkers on Tuesday when he shared that he had taken a morning jog through Central Park and managed to go unnoticed. The future king of the United Kingdom revealed his morning adventure during a conversation with previous Earthshot Prize winner Vaitea Cowan at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit.
The 41-year-old prince explained that he had decided to join the New Yorkers in their morning routine, enjoying the sunny weather and fresh air. Reflecting on his visit to New York, William expressed his joy at returning after a long absence, noting that the last time he was in the city was in 2014. However, due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the passing of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, last year, his plans to return had been postponed.
The Earthshot Prize was established by Prince William in 2020 with the aim of recognizing and rewarding companies and projects that focus on climate solutions. At the summit, the prince also stopped by the Ladder10 Firehouse in New York City, where he spent time with fans near the World Trade Centre site. He even expressed his desire to bring his family back to the city in the future.
During his interactions with the public, Prince William showcased his playful side, engaging in light-hearted banter with tourists and locals alike. He joked with a tourist from Brazil about the Brazilian weather they brought with them and playfully teased a group of celebrating 60-year-old women, referring to them as a rowdy bunch.
One of the group members, Barb Patterson, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, shared her experience of meeting the prince, mentioning how he humorously remarked on her age and suggested they use the number 50 instead. Another group member, Rebecca MacEachern, described Prince William as a lovely man and expressed her thrill at meeting him.
During his visit to the FDNY Ten House, a fire station located opposite the World Trade Centre, Prince William paid tribute to the six firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11. He toured the station with Laura Kavanagh, unbothered even when a rat scurried past him—a testament to his composure and down-to-earth demeanor.
Earlier in the day, William attended the Earthshot Summit alongside other notable figures such as Prince Albert of Monaco and former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. The purpose of his trip to New York was to participate in the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, where the finalists for this year’s awards would be announced. The final winners will be revealed during the 2023 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, set to take place in Singapore.
