The Dream Brokers program in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division has demonstrated significant benefits for students in the province, according to a new report presented to the Catholic board. The program, which operates in two schools within the division, has led to increased participation in sports and cultural activities among students. The provincial report, prepared by the provincial body for partners and stakeholders, highlights the positive impact of the Dream Brokers program across Saskatchewan.

Education Director Lorel Trumier expressed satisfaction with the program’s development, emphasizing the importance of its presence in the province. The Dream Brokers program specifically targets children who would not have the opportunity to participate in community-based programs in urban centers across Saskatchewan. By working in inner city schools, the Dream Brokers help children and youth engage in existing sports, cultural, and recreational programs.

The report revealed that a total of 2,043 program participants throughout the province benefited from the Dream Brokers program, with 28 physical literacy programs being offered. This year alone, there were 776 new participants. The Give Kids a Chance Charity Inc. operates the Dream Broker program and collaborates with both public and Catholic School Boards in Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton, and North Battleford.

Trumier highlighted the program’s value, describing it as lucky and highly recommended. The Dream Brokers program was first implemented at St. John Community School in 2012 and later extended to St. Catherine after receiving approval from the board. Its presence has effectively eliminated barriers to participation in sports and cultural activities at both schools within the division.

The Dream Broker program holds a mission to encourage and sustain youth participation in arts, sports, and cultural recreational activities. The school division’s report revealed that inner city youths in Saskatchewan are less likely to engage in physical activity or participate in sports and recreational activities outside of school compared to their peers. By identifying areas of interest and supporting sustained participation in the sport of their choice, Dream Brokers facilitate healthy, active, and successful community involvement among children and youth.

The program collaborates with various organizations and facilitators, including Sask Sport, KidSport, Northern Community School Rec Coordinator Program, and Jump Start. By offering a range of opportunities, the Dream Brokers program plays a pivotal role in ensuring children and youth have access to diverse activities that contribute to their overall well-being.

In summary, the Dream Brokers program has had a positive impact on students in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division. Through its presence in two schools, the program has increased students’ participation in sports and cultural activities. The provincial report reflects the significant efforts and achievements of the Dream Brokers program throughout Saskatchewan, benefiting over 2,000 participants and introducing new individuals to physical literacy programs. With ongoing support and collaboration, the Dream Brokers program continues to enable children and youth to become active, healthy, and successful members of their community.
