Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Thursday for a two-day visit, aimed at strengthening strategic ties between India and France. During his visit, he will hold extensive discussions with President Emmanuel Macron and attend the French National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi received a red-carpet welcome and was greeted by members of the Indian community residing in Paris. Expressing his enthusiasm, Modi tweeted, Looking forward to boosting India-France cooperation during this visit. My various programs today include an interaction with the Indian community later in the evening.
In a special gesture, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne herself received Modi at the airport. A ceremonial welcome was accorded to him, marking the significance of his visit. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, stated that Modi’s schedule in Paris includes participation in the Bastille Day celebrations and a series of engagements with French leaders, the Indian diaspora, CEOs, and prominent personalities.
Upon his arrival, Modi interacted with children and members of the Indian community, who chanted Bharat Mata ki Jai (Long Live Mother India) to express their enthusiasm and support. The visit to France holds special significance for Modi as he will be joining President Macron for the French National Day celebrations in Paris.
As part of the celebrations, the Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and built guided missile destroyer, INS Chennai, is also in France. It will participate in the Bastille Day celebrations along with an Indian military contingent representing all three services.
Additionally, India approved proposals for the procurement of 26 Naval variant Rafale jets from France and three French-designed Scorpene class submarines. The projects, expected to cost around Rs 80,000 to Rs 85,000 crore, were approved by the Defense Acquisition Council ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s talks with President Macron.
