Surat (Gujarat) [India], December 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat on December 17, making it the world’s largest and most advanced hub for international diamond and jewellery trade. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a global center for both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewellery, facilitating seamless trading operations.
The Surat Diamond Bourse will encompass a cutting-edge ‘Customs Clearance House’ for efficient import and export processes, a retail jewellery mall to cater to the needs of consumers, and a specialized facility for international banking and safe storage of valuable assets. The bourse’s infrastructure aims to enhance the industry’s efficiency and support the growth and expansion of the diamond and jewellery businesses.
Additionally, during his visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate the new terminal building at Surat Airport, constructed at a cost of Rs 353 crore. The revamped terminal is designed with the architectural beauty of Kashta houses in Rander, showcasing a heritage look. This development will significantly augment the airport’s capacity, enabling it to handle up to 1,800 passengers per hour during peak hours and serving approximately 3.5 million passengers annually.
After these inaugurations, the Prime Minister will embark on a two-day visit to Varanasi. There, he will flag off the city’s second Vande Bharat Express, running between Varanasi and Delhi. This high-speed rail service will provide a quick and convenient mode of transportation for passengers traveling between the two cities.
