President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine celebrated Air Force Day by immersing himself in the country’s air defense capabilities. He flew an F-16 simulator, engaged in briefings about fighter planes and air defense weapons, and interacted with Ukrainian Air Force personnel. Zelensky also participated in the cancellation of the new Fighters of Evil postage stamp set, highlighting the F-16 obliterating the Kremlin. These events were part of a larger commemoration of Ukraine’s Air Force modernization efforts.

During his visit, President Zelensky observed displays of Ukrainian aircraft equipped with modern weaponry, such as Su-25 attack planes, Su-24M bombers, and Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters. Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, the Ukrainian Air Force Commander, underscored the role of Western partners in upgrading the aircraft with advanced munitions, including ZUNI air-to-surface missiles, Storm Shadow cruise missiles, and AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles. The president also received detailed briefings on the Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems.

To further enhance his understanding of the F-16 fighter, Zelensky tested a state-of-the-art simulator provided by Czechia. During the simulation, he successfully intercepted and shot down a virtual Russian Tu-95 aircraft. The Ukrainian Air Force expressed their appreciation by gifting the president with a helmet signed by heroic pilots who have received prestigious military honors.

Expressing gratitude for the gift, President Zelensky promised to continue his efforts to procure F-16 fighter aircraft for Ukraine. This commitment aligns with Ukraine’s objective of bolstering its air defense capabilities and further modernizing its military arsenal.

In another symbolic event, the president, along with Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhny, took part in the ceremonial cancellation of the Fighters of Evil stamp and envelope. Released by Ukraine’s official mail service, Ukrposhta, the stamp depicted the Ukrainian Armed Forces symbolically obliterating the evil empire and represented the valor and strength of the nation’s military.

In conclusion, President Zelensky’s engagement with Ukraine’s Air Force on Air Force Day emphasizes the country’s commitment to strengthening its air defense capabilities. From experiencing flight simulations to exploring the modernized aircraft displayed, the president’s involvement showcased Ukraine’s determination to promote its security interests. Furthermore, the symbolic cancellation of the Fighters of Evil stamp highlighted the nation’s military strength and valor. These events contribute to Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize and upgrade its Air Force with the active support of Western allies.
