Some twenty Prensa Latina titles at a Havana publishing fair

Coinciding with its 65th anniversary celebrations in June, Prensa Latina will be showcasing a wide selection of titles at a publishing fair in Havana. From February 12 to 15, visitors can explore various books that capture the essence of Latin American history. One notable title, Prensa Latina Voz del Sur Global, was launched at the forum A New Operation Truth, held in Havana in January. The fair will take place at Prensa Latina’s headquarters, located at Calle E esquina 19 in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado.

One book that captures historical significance is El Mérito de Estar Vivo, a 311-page masterpiece written by the late journalist Luis Báez. Through interviews and images, Báez unveils the United States’ attempts to overthrow the Cuban Revolution and assassinate the iconic leader Fidel Castro. Another notable publication is Fidel Castro: Nuestra Sangre Por Vietnam, which pays tribute to when the Commander-in-Chief visited Vietnam amidst US aggression fifty years ago. This book, co-produced by Prensa Latina and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), includes 46 breathtaking photos capturing that pivotal moment.

The fair also offers other captivating texts such as Prensa Latina, la Agencia que Hacía Falta, Periodismo, Riesgos y Peligros, and Los Años Precursores. These books feature stories shared by correspondents who have witnessed significant moments and transcendent news events across the continent.

Among the classics from Prensa Latina’s publishing house is Colombia la Paz Esquiva del Caguán by journalist Luis Enrique González. This book recounts his experiences covering the frustrating peace process between the Government of Andrés Pastrana and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) from 1999 to 2002.

In addition, visitors can find titles like S.O.S. Amazonía, Trampas Geográficas, and Mujeres en el Tercer Milenio. The latter offers an overview by Prensa Latina journalists and correspondents on the current situation of women in different regions globally. The fair also includes Revistas Mi Guevara, a comprehensive collection consisting of texts, a chronology, and 76 photographs showcasing the heroic guerrilla, Ernesto Che Guevara.

Founded on June 16, 1959, Prensa Latina is an esteemed news agency with offices in almost 40 countries, predominantly in Latin America. It transmits approximately 400 daily dispatches, forming the backbone of its world news service available in Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, and Turkish.

The publishing fair not only celebrates Prensa Latina’s rich history but also offers readers the opportunity to immerse themselves in captivating stories, shedding light on important events and figures that have shaped Latin America and beyond. With a diverse range of titles available, the fair promises to cater to the interests and needs of a global audience while inviting visitors to discover the depth and significance of Latin American literature.
