A 29-year-old pregnant woman in Bengaluru faced a double tragedy recently when she suffered a miscarriage and had her gold mangalya chain stolen during surgery. The incident took place at Motherhood Hospital at Kaikondrahalli, Sarjapur Road, where the woman, known as Sandhya, was admitted due to complications in her six-month pregnancy.
Sandhya’s husband, Udhay, a software engineer, recounted the sequence of events. After being admitted to the hospital on December 26, Sandhya’s water broke on the same day, and the doctors advised terminating the pregnancy. Following the procedure, the doctors recognized the need to clean her uterus and subsequently took her to the operation theatre for a dilation and curettage (D&C). However, when Sandhya emerged from the surgery, her 72-gram gold mangalya chain, worth about Rs 4.5 lakh, was missing.
Udhay expressed his frustration, stating that although a week has passed, the hospital management conducted only an internal inquiry without taking responsibility for the incident. He highlighted that he withheld the full payment of the bill, requesting to speak to the hospital CEO before making any further decisions.
In response to the incident, the hospital’s call center head stated that the matter is being handled by top management and the police. The required documents have been submitted, and the police are expected to provide further clarification on the issue.
This incident has left Sandhya and her husband with feelings of distress and disappointment. The loss of her chain, a significant personal possession, has further added to their already difficult situation. The couple now hopes for a resolution and appropriate action from the hospital management.
As investigations continue, it remains to be seen how the hospital will address the concerns raised by Sandhya and Udhay. In the meantime, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures within healthcare facilities, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients during their time of vulnerability.
