SDP Zonal Chairman’s Home Attacked by Political Thugs, Leaving Him in Critical Condition

In a shocking incident, a group of ruthless political thugs have launched a violent attack on the residence of Pastor Sunday Atabo, Zonal Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State. The assault took place at his country home in Aja-Odi Agojoeju, Ofu Local Government Area.

According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles, cutlasses, and rods, stormed Atabo’s house on Saturday night, inflicting severe injuries that left him in a state of coma. Atabo, who is also the General Overseer of Bible Believers Church, Agojeju-Efakwu, is currently fighting for his life and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Disturbingly, the attackers did not stop there. They vandalized Atabo’s property, including his vehicles and other valuable belongings, leaving behind a trail of destruction. It is believed that the assailants also attempted to set his house on fire, endangering the lives of Atabo and his family. Thankfully, the flames refused to ignite, sparing them from further harm.

Expressing his outrage, Dr Arome Okeme, the state secretary of the SDP, highlighted the pattern of targeted attacks on the party’s leaders and members. He condemned the recent assault on Atabo and appealed to the relevant security agencies, including the commissioner of police, Department of State Services (DSS), Army, and Civil Defence, to intervene promptly and bring the perpetrators to justice.

ID Ijele, the director of new media of the SDP governorship campaign team, echoed these concerns and emphasized the need for security agents to address the growing wave of violence aimed at suppressing the party’s leadership and undermining the participation of their supporters in electoral processes.

The SDP, therefore, calls for immediate action to ensure the safety and protection of its members and supporters. It is crucial that these violent acts are thoroughly investigated, and those responsible are held accountable for their crimes.

Such politically motivated attacks not only pose a threat to the individuals targeted but also undermine the democratic principles on which our society is built. As Nigeria prepares for upcoming elections, it is imperative that all stakeholders work together to maintain peace and security, allowing citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.

The wellbeing of Pastor Sunday Atabo hangs in the balance as he fights for his life following this vicious assault. Our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time, and we hope for his speedy recovery.
