Police Propose Salary Increase & Cost-of-Living Adjustment in Effort to Address Hardship

The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, has submitted proposals for an annual and one-time salary increment for police officers to the government. This move comes in response to the hardships faced by members of the police force due to the rising cost of living.

The suggestions put forward include adopting the minimum wage for lower-ranking officers and implementing a 30% annual salary increment. At present, a new police constable receives only RM1,441, and it is proposed that the minimum wage of RM1,500 should be applied to police officers as well.

In addition to salary increases, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has also proposed a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (Cola) for police officers. He suggests that officers and normal rank-and-file personnel in urban areas should receive RM300, while those in suburban areas should receive RM200. Furthermore, personnel in rural areas should be granted RM100. These adjustments aim to alleviate the financial burden faced by police officers in different regions.

During the press conference held at the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) base, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain emphasized the importance of addressing issues related to illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime. He highlighted the need for the police force to adapt and transform in order to effectively combat these crimes. The establishment of the Bukit Aman Wildlife Crime Bureau and Intelligence and Special Investigations (WCB/PSK) is part of this commitment.

Tan Sri Razarudin Husain further expressed that the focus of the new bureau is not limited to the conservation of the Malayan tiger. It also includes the protection and preservation of natural resources, heritage, and treasures from the land, sky, and sea. The enforcement agency is actively working towards combating illegal logging and mining activities that pose a threat to Malaysia’s natural resources.

In conclusion, the proposals for salary increments and a Cost-of-Living Adjustment put forth by the Inspector-General of Police aim to alleviate the financial struggles faced by police officers and address the increasingly high cost of living. These measures, if implemented, will undoubtedly provide much-needed relief to the men and women who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
