Police Officer Suspended in Kerala Drug Gang Scandal, Unveiling Influence of Racket
Kerala, India – In a shocking turn of events, a police officer has been suspended due to suspected links with a notorious drug gang based in Thamarassery, Kerala. This incident sheds light on the significant influence wielded by such criminal organizations in the state.
The drug gang, operating with impunity for over a year, employed an unprecedented modus operandi that baffled authorities. Members of the ring established a shed in Ambalathukunnu, which welcomed not only drug users but also students and teenagers in search of illicit substances. Surprisingly, the temporary unit even had a generator and was protected by ferocious guard dogs, including rottweilers. Local residents repeatedly notified officials about the suspicious activities, but their concerns fell on deaf ears.
Mansoor Koorimunda, a resident in close proximity to the shed, faced the brunt of the gang’s wrath. To safeguard his family, Mansoor was forced to install CCTV cameras after unidentified individuals began flocking to the area, posing a threat to their security.
Frustrated by this unexpected development, the gang launched an attack on Mansoor’s family on the night of September 4. Mansoor explained that the kingpin of the racket, Muhammad Ayub, deliberately sought remote locations away from town centers to carry out their illicit operations. Their proximity to Mansoor’s residence introduced numerous unwelcome visitors and vehicles, which deeply concerned his wife and children.
In the violent incident, the gang pelted stones at Mansoor’s house, causing significant damage to his windows. They also issued threats to the neighbors who tried to intervene. When the police arrived at the scene, they too were targeted with stones. Moreover, the gang attacked and injured a local resident named Irshad. Only after the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and additional police forces arrived did the situation gain some semblance of control. One suspect was apprehended.
This alarming incident served as an eye-opener, prompting various organizations and political parties to stage protests and demand swift action. Subsequently, the police arrested ten drug pushers, including a woman named Pushpa, and the main orchestrator, Ayub, in connection with the attack. The authorities are actively seeking the remaining suspects.
Numerous organizations had previously expressed doubts about the involvement of certain police officers in supporting drug gangs. These suspicions were confirmed when photographs of Rijilesh, a civil officer with the Kodenchery police station, surfaced on social media. As a result, Rijilesh was suspended pending an inquiry.
The incident has brought to light the grave issue of drug rings infiltrating Kerala’s society with alarming ease. It raises significant questions about the influence and reach of these criminal networks, as well as the potential complicity of law enforcement officials in aiding their operations.
The Kerala police must now conduct a thorough investigation to root out any corruption within their ranks and ensure that all individuals involved in the drug gang face appropriate legal consequences. The fight against drug trafficking and organized crime requires the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies, government bodies, and society as a whole if Kerala is to rid itself of this pervasive issue.
