Police have busted what they’re calling a sophisticated drug trafficking network, operating throughout southern Ontario.
On Monday, 18 search warrants were executed in Waterloo Region, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area, resulting in officers seizing methamphetamine, cannabis and cocaine, worth an estimated $3.4 million.
This group of individuals was involved in the distribution of not only crystal methamphetamine, but also cocaine and illicit cannabis. The investigation revealed they were involved in the production of illicit cannabis through an illegal marijuana grow operation. And it’s our belief that the production of cannabis … was actually funding the network in terms of the distribution of methamphetamine. said Inspector Ryan Hogan, with York Regional Police.
Police in York, Waterloo Regional Police, and Ontario Provincial Police were all part of the investigation, dubbed Project Cache.
An illegal cannabis dispensary, operating out of Kitchener, was identified and dismantled, as part of the investigation.
It was what we would describe as completely illicit and illegal cannabis dispensary, basically operating as a variety store … with the basement separated into areas of packaging, production, intake orders … a large volume of drugs were seized from that location. added Hogan.
As part of Project Cache, officers seized ten kilograms of meth, approximately 580 pounds of illegal cannabis, a large quantity of cocaine, as well as $450,000 in cash.
