Six policemen, including two sub-inspectors, have been suspended for allegedly beating a 48-year-old farmer to death in Uttar Pradesh, India. The victim, Santosh Sharma, was suspected of being a gambler. An FIR was lodged against the accused cops, an ambulance driver, and three unidentified men under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code on November 10. However, the details of the case have only come to light after the Akhil Bhartiya Brahmin Mahasabha threatened a large-scale protest if the arrested cops were not brought to justice by the end of the week. The president of the organization, SK Pandey, warned that they would surround the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police on December 13 if the accused were not promptly arrested. Despite a non-bailable warrant being issued, the police have yet to make any arrests. An investigation into the incident is underway.
