Police Arrest 33, Recover Stolen Items, Guns, and Drugs in Major Operations

In a series of major operations carried out by the police, 33 individuals have been apprehended, and a significant quantity of stolen items, firearms, and narcotics have been recovered. These successful exercises, conducted across various divisions, have demonstrated the law enforcement agencies’ commitment to maintaining public safety.

In the North Eastern Division, officers acted on information and conducted a search near an abandoned building on Mango George Hill, Malick. To their astonishment, they discovered an AK-47 rifle, loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, concealed in a garbage bag. Additionally, they stumbled upon two number plates and a bulletproof vest carefully hidden among galvanized sheets. It is a relief to know that these deadly weapons are now off the streets.

Meanwhile, in the North Central Division, the police managed to detain three individuals in Arouca, who attempted to flee from them. During the pursuit, a silver and black firearm, along with a magazine containing ten rounds of ammunition, was seized. Furthermore, the officers successfully apprehended a man who had allegedly snatched a woman’s purse on St Michael Road in Tacarigua. Such swift action against offenders contributes to creating a safer environment for all citizens.

Efforts to combat crime were also evident in the Central Division, where a 28-year-old man from Freeport was arrested for possession of cocaine. In addition, a 50-year-old individual was found to be in possession of a Glock pistol and twelve rounds of ammunition of a similar caliber. Law enforcement’s proactive stance against drug-related activities is commendable, as it helps curtail the spread of illegal substances within communities.

Acting on intelligence, officers proceeded to Foress Park Dump Road in Claxton Bay, resulting in the sighting of two men, one carrying a backpack. Upon noticing the police, the individuals fled but left behind the backpack. Inside the abandoned bag, authorities discovered a .38 caliber revolver, two rounds of ammunition, and a significant quantity of compressed high-grade marijuana. This seizure undoubtedly contributes to the disruption of organized criminal networks.

Furthermore, a collaboration between the Central Division and various specialized units, such as the Stolen Vehicles Squad, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and Immigration South and North, led to the arrest of a man from Couva. The suspect was driving a stolen car, a white Toyota Aqua, reported missing from a Chaguanas carpark back in September 2022. Combating vehicle theft is crucial in safeguarding citizens from being victims of such crimes.

The Southern Division actively executed twelve warrants, resulting in the arrest of six individuals during an exercise conducted by the Court and Process Branch. Additionally, authorities are questioning ten people in connection with various offenses, highlighting the comprehensive nature of their investigations. This efficient approach ensures that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

Investigations into drug-related crimes have also yielded significant results. Four individuals have been arrested on drug-related charges, with a 48-year-old laborer facing charges for possessing cocaine with the intent to traffic. This individual is expected to appear before the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Additionally, an 18-year-old man from Barrackpore has been arrested and charged with ammunition possession. Their detainment underscores law enforcement’s dedication to tackling drug-related issues head-on.

In the Western Division, three men are currently assisting the police with inquiries into various offenses, including larceny, robbery with violence, and shootings. Additionally, a man from Carenage has been apprehended on charges of robbery, while another individual from Diego Martin is facing charges of store breaking and larceny. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement and citizens reporting criminal activities contribute to a safer society.

These recent police operations have undoubtedly made significant strides in combatting criminal activities. The successful arrests and confiscation of stolen items, firearms, and drugs have reemphasized the importance of proactively addressing public safety concerns. The dedication and efficiency demonstrated by law enforcement agencies should be commended, as they tirelessly work towards creating a crime-free environment for all citizens.
