Swedish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Polestar is planning to expand its presence in China’s rapidly growing EV market, according to its CEO Thomas Ingenlath. In an interview with Xinhua, Ingenlath emphasized the immense potential of the Chinese market, highlighting the country’s demand for a unique customer experience and digital integration in cars. However, he also acknowledged the challenges that European brands face in this market, both culturally and technologically.

Polestar, headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, aims to accelerate the shift to sustainable mobility through the use of design and technology in its EV cars. Currently, the company has a global presence in 27 markets across North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region.

Ingenlath spoke during an innovation demonstration event held in Los Angeles, where Polestar showcased its future models, including the Polestar 3, Polestar 4, Polestar 5, Polestar Precept, the Polestar Electric Roadster Concept, and Polestar Synergy. Attendees of the event had the opportunity to test drive these latest models.

China has played a prominent role in Polestar’s history, with the company manufacturing its cars in various Chinese cities such as Chengdu, Taizhou, and Hangzhou Bay. Ingenlath praised China as one of the fastest-growing EV markets in the world, citing its competence, quality, reliability, and robust supply chain base.

To further enhance its presence in China, Polestar has teamed up with Chinese technology firm DreamSmart Group to develop a seamless operating system for its vehicles sold in the country. This collaboration will involve the integration of in-car apps, streaming services, and intelligent vehicle software.

Ingenlath expressed confidence in China’s economic development and emphasized the country’s determination to forge ahead. He also highlighted the urgency of addressing climate change and the importance of global cooperation in achieving a fossil-free industry. He believes that green energy is the best solution for personal transport and a healthier environment.

As Polestar seeks to seize opportunities in China’s EV market, the company demonstrates its commitment to innovative technology and sustainable mobility. With its expansion plans and technological cooperation, Polestar aims to appeal to Chinese consumers who demand a unique and digitally integrated driving experience.
