Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the G20 nations to ensure an affordable, inclusive clean energy transition and not leave developing countries behind. Speaking via a video message to the G20 Clean Energy Ministerial meeting in India, PM Modi emphasized the importance of advancing sustainable and clean energy transitions while ensuring that the Global South receives low-cost finance to support their development efforts.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need to bridge technology gaps, promote energy security, and diversify supply chains. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration on fuels for the future and invited members to join India’s Green Grids Initiative – One Sun, One World, One Grid of the International Solar Alliance. PM Modi believes that interconnecting green grids can have a transformative impact, enabling countries to meet their climate goals, stimulate green investment, and create millions of green jobs.

Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy R K Singh also addressed the meeting, calling on developed nations to support poorer countries in their energy transitions. Singh highlighted the importance of affordable energy, especially for those without access to electricity, and stressed the need for low-cost finance to facilitate faster energy transitions in emerging and developing countries. He called for cooperation, collaboration, and the sharing of green technology to achieve global energy transition goals.

The G20 Energy Ministerial Meeting, hosted by Goa, is expected to conclude with a joint communiqué outlining the members’ common commitments to sustainable energy goals. This meeting serves as a platform for member nations to address pressing energy issues, explore innovative solutions, and shape the global energy landscape.

Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed honor in hosting the event, stating that it provided a unique opportunity for India to showcase its dedication to advancing clean and sustainable energy solutions.

The discussions at the G20 meeting reflect the global commitment towards transitioning to clean and affordable energy sources. As the world’s most populated and fastest-growing large economy, India’s achievements in non-fossil energy installations and its ambitious targets for the future showcase its commitment to a sustainable energy transition. The emphasis on collaboration, low-cost finance, and technology sharing will be crucial in ensuring that developing countries can also participate in and benefit from the clean energy revolution. The G20’s efforts in this regard will be closely watched by the world as it looks up to this group to advance a clean, affordable, and inclusive energy future.
