Prime Minister Narendra Modi has suggested to state BJP leaders in Bhopal that ticket distribution for the upcoming election won’t be based on family ties or dynasties and many senior leaders may lose their chance at a ticket. Modi emphasized that the party should be centered around the Lotus symbol, rather than individual candidates.
This announcement could be a blow to many BJP leaders who wish to secure a spot for their children in the next election. A few who are vying for tickets are Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s son, former state party president Prabhat Jha’s son, former minister Gaurishanker Bisen’s daughter, former minister Jayant Malaiya’s son, and legislator Malini Gaud’s son.
Last election cycle, BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son was given a ticket, but it seems unlikely that this will be repeated in the upcoming election.
Modi’s shift away from traditional dynastic politics within BJP could impact the party’s voter base and stoke internal power struggles. However, some believe this move will allow for a more democratic selection process, in which candidates will be chosen based on their qualities and qualifications rather than their family relationships.
As the election approaches, it remains to be seen which BJP leaders will earn a spot on the ticket and how the party will fare without the influence of familial ties.
