Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the French National Day celebrations in Paris as a special guest of honor, making him the first foreign dignitary to be invited to the event since US President Donald Trump in 2017. The visit, scheduled for July 13 and 14, will mark Modi’s fifth trip to France.
The French National Day, also known as Bastille Day, is a significant event in France, commemorating the Storming of the Bastille Prison during the French Revolution in 1789. The highlight of the celebrations is the Bastille Day Parade, which is similar to India’s Republic Day Parade. However, it is rare for foreign leaders to be invited as guests of honor for the event, making Modi’s presence all the more exceptional.
In a special gesture, India’s tri-services contingent, including Indian Air Force aircraft, will participate in the Parade. This showcases the close ties between France and India, as well as the strategic partnership they share. The visit holds particular significance as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership.
French President Emmanuel Macron has maintained a strong personal rapport with Prime Minister Modi, and their two-day meeting will entail several special gestures. These include multiple meetings, a private dinner, and a joint meeting with CEOs. Macron will also host a state banquet at the iconic Louvre Museum on Bastille Day in Modi’s honor. Over 200 guests will be present at the dinner.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will interact with key French personalities and engage with the entire political leadership of France. This includes President Macron, Prime Minister Borne, and the presidents of the Senate and National Assembly. The focus will be on bolstering trade and economic relations between the two nations. A CEO Forum comprising prominent figures from both India and France will also discuss bilateral and global issues.
Modi’s schedule also features an interaction with the Indian community and a visit to the prestigious La Seine Musicale. The visit aims to strengthen the bond between the two countries and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The Prime Minister’s visit to France underscores the significance of the India-France partnership and showcases the positive rapport between the leaders of both nations. It is expected to have a positive impact on trade, economy, and global collaboration. The events planned for the visit demonstrate the shared commitment towards furthering bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
