Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered an investigation into a train accident that occurred on June 2 in Balasore, Odisha state, which killed over 260 passengers. During a visit to the Fakir Mohan Hospital, where some of the injured passengers were admitted, Modi promised that whoever was found responsible for the tragedy would not be spared. He thanked the government of Odisha and officers of its administration for trying to help people with limited resources and also the individuals who donated blood or provided assistance in the rescue operation. Modi flew to the crash site in an Indian Air Force chopper, and reviewed the situation together with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and emphasised the need for a Whole of Government approach to address the situation. Seven National Disaster Response Force teams, five Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force units, and 24 Fire Services and Emergency Units were involved in rescue operations, while the Indian Air Force deployed Mi-17 helicopters for the evacuation of the injured.
